February 4th 2019, is observed as World Cancer Day. This health awareness day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control, a global consortium of more than 470 cancer-fighting organizations in over 120 countries.
We all are touched/ affected by this global epidemic in some way and this day is used to raise awareness and education about cancer and encourage its prevention and treatment. A reported, 9.6 million people die from cancer every year. It is the second-leading cause of death worldwide even though, studies have shown that at least one third of common cancers are preventable.
The number of cancer cases and related deaths worldwide is estimated to significantly double over the next 20 to 40 years. 70% of cancer deaths occur in low-to-middle income countries that are least equipped to cope with both the social and economic impact of the disease.
Up to 3.7 million lives could be saved each year by implementing resource appropriate strategies for prevention, early detection and treatment. Today is your opportunity to get involved anyway you can. Whoever you are, whatever your profession. Whether you’re a cancer survivor, a cancer patient or you know someone who has cancer or lost someone to this disease, you can make a difference and aid in the fight to have a cancer free world.
Together, we can create positive change and work towards reducing the impact of cancer.
The TTSEC stands with the millions of persons across the globe who continue to bring awareness about this disease, we celebrate the survivors, we pray for those who are cancer patients and we remember those who have lost their battle with cancer.
